Choosing a Confirmation Sponsor

ministries-middle-school-5The sponsor is a person who helps the candidate learn the meaning of a life of faith in Jesus Christ and integrate it on a personal level.  The sponsor’s role is not just a title.  The sponsor’s role is a serious one, which serves to personalize faith and lead into a deeper relationship with Jesus and his church.

A possible person is one of your Baptismal Godparents.  The Catechism suggests this (#1311) to help us make the connection between Baptism and Confirmation but it is not necessary.  Your sponsor should be someone you trust, someone whose faith you admire and someone who will be there for you. Your sponsor can be a relative or a friend but not a parent.
